Rocio De La Mañana

Critically acclaimed harpist »Rocío De La Mañana« began her musical studies in Colombia (S.A.) at the National University, Faculty of Music in Bogota.

Since establishing herself in Montreal, she has won the Chamber Music and Performance Prize (1990, 1991) given by the Music Conservatory in Montreal, Canada.

In 1994 Ms. Rodriguez completed her studies with one of the worlds leading harpists and her teacher Judy Loman – a former student of the late Carlos Salzedo – (at Montreal University graduating with a Masters degree in performance.

In 1995 she added teaching to her resumé, accepting a position at the McGill Conservatory of Music in Montréal.

Her dedication to the harp in combination with her natural talent has made her one of the rising stars of the Montreal classical music scene. Ms Rodriguez’s repertoire runs the gamut from Baroque to Contemporary with a special emphasis on the compositions of the Romantic and Impressionist periods. Lately she has started interpreting and transcribing South American Folk Harp Pieces for the Classical Harp. She has special interest in transcribing traditional songs for the classical harp.

Ms Rodriguez’s professional career is marked by lengthy associations with some of the city’s high profile ensembles and Orchestras, including The Montreal Chamber Orchestra performing as a Soloist, the McGill Symphony Orchestra, Montreal playing live at the world famous Carnegie Hall and The Modern Ensemble »NEM« (Nouvel Ensemble Moderne), Montreal.

In addition she has toured with the »World Youth Orchestra« and has appeared in various venues in Germany (Schauspielhaus Berlin), Scandinavia and across Canada. She has performed in various chamber ensembles under the auspices of the Atelier de Musique de Montreal.

In 1996 she won the position of Principal Harp at the »Colombian Symphonic Orchestra« in Bogota under the direction of Maestros Irwin Hofmann and Alejandro Posada and has played in various countries around South America. She has also won the soloist of the year audition in three ocassions performing the Mozart flute and harp Concerto, the Ravel Introduction et Allegro and the Debussy Dances Sacree et Profane.

Many recitals for both political, diplomatic and numerous charity events as well as outstanding performances at the »Teatro Colon« and around Colombia made her one of South Americas most demanded harpists throughout the past Millenium!

After the birth of her daughter Sofia in 2003 she decided to retire from her active career until 2005 when she again started to play her beloved instrument focusing on new projects that will bring her musical career to a new peak.
